Mussolini and the Soviet Union: from recognition to the end of fascism

Abstract

This paper aims to reconstruct the existing relationships between fascism and the Soviet Union from 1922 until the fall of the regime. Many fascist intellectuals believed it necessary to establish good diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union, others highlighted the economic and commercial advantages that would derive for Italy. In the aftermath of the outbreak of the Second World War, even some fascist magazines bluntly condemned the plutocracy of Western democracies, preferring even to speak words of praise to the figure of Stalin.
