L’europeismo di Giulio Bergmann
The Europeanism of Giulio Bergmann
Parole chiave:
Giulio Bergmann, Europeanism, Italian Republican Party, Federalism, European institutionsAbstract
The aim of this essay is to illustrate the main characters of Giulio Bergmann’s Europeanism. Drawing on the ideas of the senator of the Italian Republican Party (Pri), it means going into the republican tradition – in particular, in the continuous reference to the figures of Mazzini and Cattaneo – and looking, through the eyes of a protagonist, at the roots of the European institutional building. Bergmann's commitment, between Rome and Strasbourg, looked at the need to found a free, federal and progressive Europe to counter the rubbles of the Second World War and, for Italy, the problematic legacy of fascism.
