Abstract

European identity links Dante and Malaparte according to the latin verb “vindicare” in its latin and medieval meaning: “claim to itself”. In Dante’s ideological and poetic concepion that gives out the historical responsibility of the Empire in defending Rome and the Christian faith. Furthermore according to Malaparte, Europe’s glory comes from shame and that is the primary focus of his profound and painful analysis. The very recent declaration by Yanis Varoufakis about the reasons of Europe’s decline seems to confirm the juncture between the two writers.
