The economic characteristics of socialism in three European documents

Abstract

This work focuses on three documents drafted in Europe between the end of the Nineteenth century and the beginning of the second half of the Twentieth century, highlighting the parts in which they analyze the economic character of socialism. In particular, in the first part of the work we propose the discussion of the economic concept of socialism contained in the encyclical letter Rerum Novarum of 1891, while, in the second part, we analyze the reflections on the economic character of socialism as a political system, which are proposed in the Constitution of the Weimar Republic of 1919 and in the program of the German social-democratic Party of 1959.
