Pietro Pastorelli, between university and public life

Abstract

This essay aims to reconstruct Pietro Pastorelli’s commitment between university and public life. Died in August 2013, Pastorelli was a leading figure within the discipline of the History of International Relations. For many years his name was linked to the Faculty of Political Science at the Sapienza University of Rome, but also to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he had been active since the early 1960s. Frequenting, thanks to his collaboration with Mario Toscano, the Ministry, Pastorelli became deeply acquainted with the heritage of the Historical Archive of the Foreign Administration and had the opportunity to approach and experience the worlds of diplomacy and politics. In 2013, a very long career articulated between “academia and diplomacy” came to a close.
