Tocqueville's "prophecies". A survey

Abstract

This essay aims to analyse a particular issue related to Tocqueville’s political thought and writes: his predictive capabilities. Indeed, Tocqueville’s analyses are always crossed by a predictive tension, i.e., a desire to understand what the future developments of current events will be. It is not far-fetched to state that a non-secondary component of Tocqueville’s growing historiographical fortune can be attributed precisely to this characteristic of his way of working.
