Abstract

In this delicate epochal phase, characterized by new political ferments, and divided between opposed thrusts of radicalization of national sovereignties and supranational governance policies, the request for a possible form of political and social European integration becomes more pressing. In our time national consciousness, seems to oscillate between enlargement of inclusion and new forms of closure and this is also attributable to the lack of sense of belonging of the European peoples to a common home and destiny. Therefore, ask yourself what political and social integration is possible and necessary today, requires to consider the lack of symbolic identification and identity of European peoples, closed between irreconcilable tendencies to universalism or particularism. Both characters of democratic pluralism that, in effect, must be considered like complementary answers to contemporary political, social and economic transformations.
