Il presente studio analizza il primo tentativo di appeasement degli Stati Uniti nei confronti di Muammar Gheddafi nel contesto delle tensioni mediorientali. Esaminando le dinamiche geopolitiche degli anni Settanta e Ottanta, il lavoro esplora le strategie diplomatiche adottate dall’amministrazione americana per mitigare il confronto con la Libia. Si focalizza sulle motivazioni politiche ed economiche che hanno guidato le decisioni degli Stati Uniti e sulle conseguenze a breve e lungo termine di tali politiche. Attraverso l’analisi di documenti storici e testimonianze, lo studio offre una comprensione approfondita delle relazioni USA-Libia in questo cruciale periodo.

This study analyses the first attempt at appeasement by the United States towards Muammar Gaddafi within the context of Middle Eastern tensions. Examining the geopolitical dynamics of the 1970s and 1980s, the work explores the diplomatic strategies adopted by the American administration to mitigate the confrontation with Libya. It focuses on the political and economic motivations that guided U.S. decisions and the short and long-term consequences of these policies. Through the analysis of historical documents and testimonies, the study offers a comprehensive understanding of U.S.-Libya relations during this crucial period.
