The "natural counterweights" in the constitutional thought of Condorcet

Abstract

This essay aims to analyze a particular aspect of Condorcet’s political doctrine, that relating to the “natural counterweights” of power. A reconstruction aimed to underline, through the examination of a specific case study, how Condorcetian constitutionalism does not rely solely on an abstractly rationalistic mathematical approach but is nourished by a thorough knowledge of the political-constitutional models of its time.
