Abstract

In a world extremely upset by the consequences of the First World War, two great Catholic and democrats statesmen interrogate themselves about the European future: they are Luigi Sturzo and Alcide De Gasperi. Following two different approaches – and
strongly drawing the attention of the Catholic culture and politics – both Sturzo and De Gasperi condemned the authoritarian and totalitarian impulses that were developing in Europe, especially in Italy and Germany. The dynamics of the Second World War will corroborate their profound concerns.
